How to Make a Children’s Party More Fun

Let’s admit it! The vision of a happy child is the best asset a parent can own. Gone are the days when we had streamers draped around our living room, happy with weird gooey icing on our cakes and played pin the tail on the cow… Your toddler’s birthday party has to be the most sought after event in every year’s calendar. With each passing year, you think of innovative and fun ways to make her day as special as possible. From games to cake ideas, here are some fabulous ways to make your child’s party more fun than last year…

Guests: If your kid is not comfortable with too many people around her, make sure not to stress her out on her big day. Having too many guests might result in your kid acting out… instead try and limit the guest list to a handful of her known faces and her friends of course.

On the other hand, some children are more adaptable and are happy with whatever celebration their parents plan for them as long as they get parental attention and their daily routine is not held up; i.e naptime, meals, etc. It is therefore upto the parent to decide how much of hoopla her kid can handle. At the end of the day, what matters the most is whether you and your child have had a good time together!

Choose a theme: It’snot mandatory to choose a party theme but it does help in building up a pattern and personalization to the party. Once the theme has been decided, the rest of the planning will move quite smoothly. Start with what interests your kid the most. For example, princess, pirates or Harry Potter/ young wizards themes. Let your kid choose!

Send out the invitations:Be as innovative as you can. You can add a homemade touch to it by tracing your child’s hand on the invitation cover or even have the kid decorate them as he wishes. The idea behind sending out a written invitation is to convey across the party “start and end time” so that it does not clash with the kid’s daily routine. Unless you would want to handle a cranky child throughout the party!

Decorating the party space: Sometimes the best of party decoration materials can be found off the shelf at your local market. Hunt for theme- related props or DIY them yourself. Be as original as you can! One does not have to necessarily book expensive party space; an empty basement or a courtyard can serve the purpose. Hang frilly drapes on the empty walls and lots of twinkle lights and helium-filled floaty balloons all around to uplift the otherwise dull space.

Let the games begin:  By your kid’s second birthday party,you’re going to have to decide on organized activities. You may even need them for his first birthday if the guests include, for instance, a group of preschool-age cousins. Some game ideas are:

An activity like colouring birthday hats or putting stickers on a “HappyBirthday” sign is a good party starter. Decorate the children with face painting, washable tattoos, or hand-stamps. You may hire someone or have a friend who’s good at it; set up a corner and let kids come to her. Go on a scavenger hunt or play musical chairs. At the end of each game, hand out return gifts to every participant.

Goody Bags: Kids love goody bags and they really don’t care what’s in them; they just want to get something! Don’t make yourself crazy looking for stuffs to put inside the bag. Bright ribbons, little candies and toys are enough to bring a smile on those innocent faces.

The party nibbles: Kids are picky eaters. Its no point in setting up an elaborate menu of food which they would not be able to eat without adult supervision. Therefore, finger food like hot dogs, sandwiches or pizza is advisable. Set-up the table with pre-served plates and drinks. You may rev up the wow factor with unusual sweet treats for the tiny sweet-toot’s in the house.
